ChatFriends can look busy at first, especially in the evening. Our busiest times are usually after 8pm UK time. Give yourself a few moments to read, learn the room’s rhythm and decide where you would like to join in.

Choose a username that feels like you

Pick a name you will enjoy seeing in the room and that other members can easily remember when you return.

Take a look around

Read the current conversation, open the community rules and notice how members reply to one another. A few quiet moments can make the room feel much easier to follow.

Start small

A greeting or response to the current subject is enough. An ordinary message gives people a natural way to answer.

Understand the pace of a busy room

Several conversations may overlap and replies may arrive out of order. Address somebody by username when the meaning would otherwise be unclear, but avoid tagging people repeatedly for an answer.
